Ending on a happy note....

Well, this weekend definitely proved to be exciting.. but the kind of exciting that you never want to do again. On Friday evening, Kevin, Drew and I traveled to Houston to spend some time with my family and help get things organized at my parents house since my grandparents have sold their home and live with my parents now. We also took Mama Dog, Lil Bit and Rusty. Yes, we took our zoo for 2 reasons. 1. trying to save money on kennel fees, 2. Rusty is now spooked by loud noises and is once again jumping the fence when he is frightened (oye)

Anywho, the trip there was uneventful and we made is safely. On Saturday, we were kind of taking it easy, taking things to storage, doing some rearranging and such. All the while our dogs are locked safely in their crates due to some gunfire near by. It was really upsetting, but its dove season and according to the constables as long as you are on your property, you can hunt. (So i guess this means I can go shoot dove in my backyard) Rusty and Mama Dog needed to go out, so we let them out. As we were bring Mama Dog back in Rusty stuck his head through my parents doggie door, which he can't fit through, we told him to hold on, we put Mama Dog away, turned around and Rusty was no longer in the yard. OK, well it had only been like 2 mins so no worries, go find him... except that there are wood near my parents house which he ran towards away from the gunfire. So 2.5 hours later no Rusty and 2 very unhappy people. Mind you Rusty has never really spent a night outside on his own, so we were a little worried.

We stayed up late that night making signs and such to put out the first thing next morning. Well during the night it rained, and Rusty is terrified of storms, so needless to say I was getting really worried. One bonus is that Rusty is chipped, so that gave us a little hope. Well, as soon as we got up all the signs on sat, it pours, which in turn ruins the signs (groan), and we drove around off and on all day sun. We celebrated Kev's birthday that afternoon with family and such, but it wasn't much of a celebration since Rusty and Kevin share the same birthday.. but hey the food was good;)

So we made another 20 signs and this time laminated them and made super frames so they wouldn't flop around... So Monday morning.. the day we are due to leave, mom and I head off to Sam's and Kev and my dad head out with the signs... about 1030 I get a call from Kevin saying He sees Rusty and to come help! I nearly pass out in the middle of Sam's' Its turns out as they were putting a sign up a lady drove out of a gated community and told them that she thought he was in their backyard (not a fenced yard). So she drives them back to her house and their Rusty running like a madman.. Kevin called him and got him to chase him and captured the escapee! Yeah!! So we didn't have to return to Arlington one member of our family short and the sad weekend ended on a happy note. Rusty is grounded though and is now sporting every kind of ID possible so he won't be too lost again, (there'd better not be a repeat) and we do have some pretty nice signs if he pulls a Houdini again ;)
